And now the end is near.....

This learning program has been FUN. I have learnt things that I may never use again BUT at least I know what they are. I have a better understanding of what patrons are doing when they are on YouTube and Flickr etc. and kind of feel part of their "crowd". My favourite discovery was YouTube and paying homage to Johnny Depp on my blog (if you haven't watched my movies, you really should check them out!). I have been challenged, frustrated, amused and entertained, but most importantly, I have LEARNT. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? We even have our own Reference Wiki now. I hope everyone else out there has had fun too, even when they were challenged enough to want to give up. Well done everyone!

Peas in a Podcast

I have added my podcast of "Movies you should see" in to my Bloglines account and can look forward to lots of movie reviews. Honestly, you can find just about anything, on any subject - seems like everyone around the world has something to say!

For all Johnny Depp fans

YouTube is great for creative souls. I'm glad there is another out there who loves and appreciates the talents of Johnny Depp. Long live Captain Jack!
Make sure the sound is turned up!

I can't help myself! Here's another....

And one last one - some "hot stuff".

Award Winner

I love playing all types of computer games. Here's one from award winner Arcaplay. It's great when you need to chill out after a blast from a nasty patron!

Free Online Games brought to you by Arcaplay

Enjoy!

Zoho Writer

Wow! It worked. My Dr. Seuss document has appeared on my blog, just by following the instructions. I can see this as a useful tool for people who have compatibility problems with MS Word etc.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind.

Playing in the sandbox

Well, that was easy! I found that I didn't need to add the brackets. It worked without them.

Wicked Wikis

I love Wikis - for their simplicity and their immediacy. A reference desk wiki is a great idea because we are often asked the same questions over and over again. If we could enter the info into a wiki, then we could save ourselves heaps of time in researching the same thing over and again - -the only problem would be having the time to keep it up to date and relevant.

Happy Happy People

I saw this on The Age Management Line blogspot and it immediately made me smile. I wonder if this is how we are all supposed to be feeling?

Library 2.0

Remember life before the internet? When we had to use REAL reference books? Well if you don't then you are waaaay too young (you probably don't even know what a vinyl record is!) to fully understand how scary this Library 2.0 thing is. Although some of the technology is relevant, I personally believe that a library without printed reading matter is a very sad place to be. I don't know about you, but holding a book in your hand whilst reading it is far superior to reading it on the net (kind of like carob being a poor substitute for chocolate!) Having said that, I can see that technology can make our jobs easier - if we know which technology to embrace and which to discard. That's the rub.

Technical Technorati

This is an interesting site. Many different results with a general search but much more accurate with a tag search. This could be very useful when working on the reference desk.

Delicious

Well, I'm not quite sure what to think of this new bookmarking site. I always thought I had my bookmarks under control (maybe because I'm a cataloguer and we can't help it) but now I'm not so sure! I think I'll reserve judgment on this one until later.

Mucking about with technology

I love LibraryThing! It's fun to play around with and a bit disconcerting to find other people who read the same things. Rollyo can be a very useful tool for reference librarians and has other interesting applications as well. I've also had heaps of fun with the image generators and have wasted so much time (is it a waste of time when you're learning?). I know others in our library are also having fun. Can't wait for the next exercise!

Image generators

This is a fun exercise but a HUGE time waster! Anyway, have a look at my silly walk from the Silly Walk Generator.

Maybe we should make patrons entertain us with a silly walk before we allow them to borrow!

Who wants to swap trading cards?

Here's my trading card - a lovely photo of the Great Wall. Whilst I huffed and puffed my way up the steep slope, tiny Chinese women of considerable age powered past me. Amazing!

RSS - Really Silly Stuff

Well, I've just attempted to set up an RSS feed. If I've done it right I should be inundated with lovely little bits of information that I possibly may or may not need! Good luck everyone!

Rain

Check out this photo on Flickr - it's what we really need to see in our parched, dry land.

Hope it rains soon!

The accidental blogger

Serendipity :

1.
an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.
2.
good fortune; luck.

I had never really thought about creating my own blog before. Isn't this opportunity to create, learn and play an act of serendipity?
